I like to see a Jesus that protects himself, too 'he is a man like any other, even if you do not count the miracles which he did when he began his public life.
There is a passage from the Gospel (can not remember what), where Jesus likely to be stoned or thrown into the ravine.
But he escapes and makes me realize that he felt in his heart a feeling of fear.
striking example is when we see Jesus praying in the 'garden of olive trees on his knees on the floor and sweat blood, because he knows now that his hour has come and the soldiers are going to take him to arrest him and crucify him.
And he, at that time, sweating blood from his forehead, but an angel of the Lord is going to comfort him, but he, even in the deepest human fear and suffering of the heart prays to God saying:
"Father away from me the cup, but be done Thy will, not mine. "
Jesus then put herself entirely in the hands of God who will not abandon him.
